Join us for a spring workshop so you’re ready to plant dahlias that will bloom in late summer/fall!

Join Nicole D’Agata of the Painted Tulip for an informative and engaging morning, where she will share her knowledge gained from years of growing stunning dahlias. What started out of necessity for ensuring high quality flowers for weddings then became a passion which she enjoys sharing with fellow dahlia lovers!
We will discuss each stage of dahlia growing, from planting tubers in the spring to harvesting gorgeous blooms in the fall and storing your tubers for winter.
Participants will learn how to spot the “eye” on the tubers to ensure a successful planting. The workshop will also tuber division, which will allow participants to multiply their plants in inn future years. Participants will also learn about where, when, and how to plant tubers for a breathtaking summer/fall dahlia display.
Additionally, we will cover the following:
-Watering
-Sunlight
-Soil structure and amendments to help feed your dahlia plant through the season
-Creative ways to grow in less than ideal soil
-Tips to help your dahlias survive a hot, dry summer
-Making cuttings from plants to create more dahlias
A general knowledge of the following is helpful but not necessary:
Soil structure where you would like to plant (i.e. sandy loam, clay or very sandy)
Sunlight hours in your dahlia plot (how many hours a day?)
Date of last frost
Desired scale of growing

*There will be coffee, baked goods and beverages. Please let us know in advance of any food allergies.
*Tubers will be for sale. You will have an exclusive pick of our available tubers.
* Plenty of time to socialize and network with your fellow gardeners.
*A reference booklet to take home will be provided.
Please dress for rain, sun or snow... it will likely be muddy.
We will be outside or in a high tunnel with plenty of space
Please feel free to bring tubers you would like to divide.
