The time is upon us for evergreen wreaths . Everyone is putting up lights and decorating their doors. This means I am feverishly binding together fur, pine and balsam on metal rings. Creating abundant wreaths decorated with dramatic bows, pine cones and winterberry.
It is more work then you might think. This season, at a friend’s logging lot in The North East Kingdom I collected truck loads of brush from the trees he fell.
From there I had to trim the best pieces into useable sizes to continue the process. It takes 30- 45 minutes just to get the evergreens on the metal rings and then another 15minutes to put all the decorations on. By using only fresh evergreen material, the wreath will last all winter.
I love working in the cold frame greenhouse during the days which are light filled and hovering around 45-50 degrees. To make it a bit more enjoyable I listen to some of my favorite music streamed from my phone.
