The past few seasons we have been planting and collecting peonies. The bare root divisions are shipped to growers for planting in the fall, sometimes in the spring. The fall is better for planting, especially in our region. The divisions are cut from another grower’s plants after they have bloomed for at least three years.
Funny how roots so gnarly create such beautiful blooms.
I am very excited to be purchasing bare roots from a fellow Vermont Grower whose cut peonies are shipped around Europe and the United States to some of the best floral designers in the flower business. I have heard these peonies are even in the floral arrangement at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
This season we are planting Elsa Sass, a late season white peony with a full blossom,
& Coral Sunset a semi-double and early bloomer with a vivid color to the flower.Today was an absolutely beautiful day to plant these bare roots that were hand selected for my farm and delivered to me by a friend.
I can’t wait to see the fruits of our labor in a few years. If you’re a peony collector or lover, a great website to check out is http://www.peonyshop.com/
Thanks Kim Corey for the images of Nicole planting.
